This decision, which delays the issuance of notification for 23 reserved seats, has become a source of disagreement between the current authorities and President Dr. Arif Alvi.
Sahibzada Hamid Raza, a leader of the Sunni Ittehad Council, along with representatives from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) including Barrister Gohar Khan and Babar Awan, as well as members from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) such as Capt (retd) Safdar, Attaullah Tarar, and Azam Nazeer Tarar, appeared at the Election Commission’s office in Islamabad.

President Alvi, a member of Imran Khan’s PTI, rejected the summary for summoning a National Assembly session. In response, a five-member bench of the Election Commission held an open hearing on the application, having previously issued a notice to the Sunni Ittehad Council. The party, which now has a significant number of independent candidates supported by Imran Khan’s party after the general polls, has sought the allocation of reserved seats.
In a related development, a petition was filed last week to ‘restrain SIC from being treated as a parliamentary party.’ This petition, along with other related petitions, is scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday.
