Punjab to Distribute 100,000 E-Bikes to Students Across the Province

The Punjab government has announced a major expansion of its E-Bikes scheme for students across the province. Under the new plan, 100,000 E-Bikes will be distributed within one year. The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote clean and affordable transportation.

The decision was approved during a meeting of the Punjab Transport and Mass Transit Department. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired the meeting and reviewed the progress of transport projects across the province. Officials also discussed the expansion of electric mobility and public transport services.

To make the scheme more affordable, the Punjab government will provide a subsidy of Rs. 70,000 for every electric bike. The financial support is expected to reduce the overall cost for students and encourage wider participation in the program.

Under the new payment plan, male students will make a down payment of Rs. 14,000. The remaining amount will be paid through interest-free monthly installments of Rs. 2,100. The installment plan has been designed to make ownership easier for students.

Female students will receive additional support under the scheme. They will not be required to pay the down payment or the registration fee. Both expenses will be covered by the Punjab government. They will only pay interest-free monthly installments of Rs. 2,100.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also instructed the relevant departments to introduce simpler and more flexible installment plans. The government hopes these changes will encourage more students to apply for E-Bikes.

The provincial government has also decided to expand the facility to government employees. Public sector workers will be able to purchase electric bikes through easy installment plans. This decision aims to increase the use of environmentally friendly vehicles beyond educational institutions.

The expansion of the E-Bikes scheme is part of Punjab’s larger green transport initiative. The government is also introducing more electric buses, e-taxis, and electric three-wheelers across the province. These projects are intended to reduce pollution and modernize the public transport system.

During the meeting, officials also briefed the chief minister on the progress of ongoing mass transit projects. Updates were shared on the expansion of electric public transport in several districts.
