Heavy Rain Expected In Lahore Due To Westerly Wave

A westerly wave is bringing rains and snowfall to various parts of the country, with the provincial capital Lahore expected to receive heavy rainfall. In Lahore, the city experienced a light drizzle in different areas in the early morning, accompanied by cold winds. The Meteorological Office issued an advisory stating that the westerly wave is impacting western and upper parts of the country and is likely to strengthen in the next 12 hours.

The areas expected to experience rain, wind, and thunderstorms include Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore and Kasur. Additionally, Murree, Galliyat and surrounding areas are anticipated to witness rain, wind, thunderstorms and snowfall. Isolated places may experience moderate to heavy falls or hailstorms. Light to moderate rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms are expected in Multan, Bhakkar, Kot Addu, Layyah, Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.

The minimum temperature recorded in Lahore is 12 degrees Celsius, with the maximum temperature expected to reach around 20 degrees Celsius. Intermittent rainfall is predicted throughout the day and the humidity level is expected to remain around 90 per cent.

Despite the showers, the air quality in Lahore remains unhealthy with the PM2.5 concentration currently 31 times the WHO annual air quality guideline value.

The Meteorological Office stated that a new westerly wave has gripped the upper and central parts of the country. Under the influence of this weather system, moderate to heavy rain, wind and thunderstorms, along with snowfall over the hills are expected in Islamabad and Punjab, including Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore and Kasur From the night of the 17th of February to the 21st of February, 2024.
