Prime Minister Kakar Evades Second IHC Summons On Missing Baloch Students

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has chosen not to comply with the court summons in the case related to missing Baloch students. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, who presided over the hearing, expressed dissatisfaction with the interim prime minister’s absence for the second time. The judge emphasized that appearing before the court should not be perceived as an insult and stressed that no one is exempt from the law. Judge Kayani asserted that PM Kakar was summoned because he is answerable in the missing students’ case.

In a written order issued earlier, the court summoned PM Kakar, along with the defence and interior ministers and the secretaries of the relevant ministries to physically appear in the hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. The court underscored the importance of their presence in today’s proceedings.

This marks the second instance of the prime minister failing to respond to the IHC’s summons. The initial summons was issued on November 22, 2023, requiring his personal appearance in the case filed by Advocate Imaan Mazari. Despite the court’s directive, PM Kakar chose not to attend the hearing, prompting Justice Kayani to express disappointment and reiterate the principle that everyone, regardless of their position, must be accountable before the law.
