Second Day Brings Additional Rain To Submerged Karachi

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Karachi grappled with a consecutive second day of intense rainfall, leading to widespread inundation in various parts of the port city. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported the current temperature in Karachi as 19.9°C, accompanied by winds blowing at 8 km/h from the northeast. Forecasts anticipate an increase in wind speeds to 20-25 km/h throughout the day, with the humidity level recorded at 92%.

Despite the precipitation subsiding, several crucial areas, including major thoroughfares, remain submerged as the rainwater is yet to be efficiently drained. Prominent locations affected by waterlogging include Qayyumabad Chowrangi, II Chundrigar Road, Burns Road, Arts Council, and segments of the Korangi Industrial Area Road. This has resulted in significant inconvenience for commuters who are compelled to navigate longer routes to navigate through the city.

Contrastingly, certain areas such as Safoora Chowrangi, Gurumandir, Hassan Square, and Essa Nagri have witnessed successful drainage of accumulated rainwater. However, the persistent waterlogging in vital areas continues to impede normal daily activities for residents and businesses alike.

In addition to the inundation issues, the heavy rainfall triggered extended power outages in localities like Gulistan-e-Johar Block 8 and Jamshed Road since Saturday night. The combination of rain, thunder, and lightning has created a challenging situation for residents and businesses, with consequential disruptions in daily life.

The downpour, coupled with the overflow of sewage, has led to adverse consequences as rainwater infiltrated residential and hospital premises. Baldi Town, Orangi Town, North Karachi, Surjani Town, and Gulshan-e-Maymar are among the severely affected areas. Despite prior forecasts by the PMD, the city administration’s lack of preemptive measures has exacerbated the situation, contributing to the difficulties faced by the residents.

According to PMD statistics, Shara-e-Faisal experienced the highest recorded rainfall at 75 millimeters, followed by Malir and Surjani Town at 64 and 63.8 millimeters, respectively. Additional areas, including Keamari, Quaidabad, and Gulshan-e-Hadeed, also witnessed significant rainfall, underscoring the severity of the weather conditions prevailing in Karachi. The recorded rainfall levels highlight the urgent need for comprehensive and proactive measures by local authorities to mitigate the impact of such extreme weather events and ensure the safety and well-being of the city’s residents.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
