BEIJING – China has unilaterally relaxed its visa requirements, granting citizens from Ireland the ability to enter the country without the need for visas. Chinese Premier Li Qiang confirmed this development during a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar at Farmleigh House, the official Irish state guest house.
This relaxation for Irish citizens follows closely on the heels of China’s decision to allow citizens from Switzerland to enter the country with enhanced visa facilitation in a reciprocal arrangement.

In recent months, China has taken steps to ease its visa regulations, aiming to stimulate tourism and attract travelers from around the globe. Last year, the country had already lifted social distancing protocols, and the current focus is on engaging with the outside world to encourage tourism.
In another move emphasizing the importance of tourism, China and Thailand have recently declared a permanent visa-free entry policy starting from March of this year. This strategic approach demonstrates China’s commitment to promoting tourism and bolstering the country’s soft power on the global stage. The decisions to ease visa restrictions and establish permanent visa-free arrangements reflect China’s ongoing efforts to cultivate positive international relationships and foster economic and cultural exchanges through increased tourism.
