[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]After overthrowing the US-backed government in Kabul more than two years ago, the Taliban have effectively gained control of Afghan diplomatic missions in India. Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, a Taliban deputy foreign minister, stated that their consulates in Mumbai and Hyderabad are operational and in contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This comes after diplomats loyal to the ousted Afghan government announced the permanent closure of the embassy, citing a lack of cooperation from the host country. Stanekzai mentioned that consuls from both missions moved to New Delhi and reopened offices at the Afghan embassy.

However, the Taliban has not been granted diplomatic legitimacy by India and the international community due to human rights violations and their treatment of Afghan women.
