Pakistan cricket team’s former star batsman, Younis Khan, is in line for a significant role in the development of the junior team. In a recent meeting with Zaka Ashraf, the Chairperson of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee (MC), discussions were held regarding Khan’s potential role. Both Khan and Ashraf are currently overseas, so the details of the talks are yet to be finalized.

Younis Khan, Pakistan’s most successful Test-match batsman, had an illustrious 17-year-long Test career, accumulating 10,099 runs at an average of 52.05, including 34 centuries. His highest score was 313 runs against Sri Lanka at the National Stadium, Karachi, in 2009.

Khan’s main focus in his anticipated role will be nurturing and refining young talent. Additionally, sources suggest that another former star batsman, Mohammad Yousaf, will be assigned to the U-19 cricket team.

The Pakistan U-19 team is scheduled to participate in the 2023 ACC U19 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, commencing on December 8, 2023.

Fast bowler Sohail Tanvir has already been appointed as the chief selector for the national junior cricket team. He will announce the squad for the U19 Asia Cup and the 2024 ICC U19 World Cup in Sri Lanka, starting on January 13, 2024.
