Mohammad Yousuf Named Head Coach For Pakistan U19

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially announced on Saturday the appointment of former Test captain Mohammad Yousuf as the head coach of Pakistan U19. Yousuf’s initial responsibilities in this position will involve leading the team in the 2023 ACC U19 Asia Cup in the UAE from December 8 to 17 and the 2024 ICC U19 World Cup in Sri Lanka from January 13 to February 4.

Having previously served as the batting coach for the Pakistan Men’s Team and at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, Yousuf is one of Pakistan’s most distinguished batsmen. His impressive career, spanning from 1998 to 2010, saw him amass 7,530 Test runs and 9,720 ODI runs. Notably, he holds the record for the most Test runs in a calendar year, achieving 1,788 runs in 2006.

Expressing his satisfaction with the appointment, Mohammad Yousuf stated, “I am pleased to join as Pakistan U19 head coach and feel honoured to have been given the opportunity to contribute to Pakistan cricket by Chairman PCB Management Committee Mr Zaka Ashraf.” He emphasized his eagerness for the upcoming U19 tournaments, highlighting their significance for player development.

Drawing from his coaching experience with the senior men’s team, Yousuf aims to create a nurturing environment for young talents to excel and leave an impact on the international stage. He emphasized the importance of identifying, improving, and nurturing future stars to contribute to the growth of Pakistan cricket.
