Who Will Lead The Pakistan Cricket Team Next?

Reports indicate that Shan Masood is set to assume the role of Test captain, while fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is expected to lead the T20 team. The PCB has not officially disclosed the appointed captains for the three formats of cricket.

Earlier today, Babar Azam announced his resignation through a social media post, concluding his four-year tenure as captain. The decision comes in the aftermath of the national team’s underwhelming performance at the 2023 World Cup.

In his resignation statement, Babar Azam recalled his appointment in 2019 and acknowledged the highs and lows experienced both on and off the field during his captaincy. While recognizing the difficulty of his decision, Babar Azam emphasized that the timing felt right. Despite stepping down as captain, he affirmed his commitment to representing Pakistan as a player across all three formats. Babar Azam pledged to support the new captain and the team with his experience and dedication.
