The Interim Prime Minister, Anwaarul Haq Kakar, has issued a directive to crack down on individuals who are purchasing cotton at prices below the previously determined support price of Rs. 8,500 per 40kg, which was established earlier this year.
After consulting with PM Kakar on this matter, the Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, called upon cotton farmers to remain steadfast and resist selling their crops below the designated intervention price.
The Prime Minister’s Office announced that PM Kakar has taken notice of instances where cotton is being bought at prices lower than the support price. In response, he has instructed the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) to promptly address this issue and submit a comprehensive report.

During a meeting with the chief ministers of Punjab and Sindh, the Prime Minister instructed them to take decisive action against entities that are deceiving cotton growers. The meeting also discussed various matters at the provincial level.
To stabilize cotton prices, CM Naqvi urged the federal government to direct the TCP to immediately start purchasing cotton from the market. He disclosed that the current price of cotton in Punjab has fallen to Rs. 6,500 per 40kg, which is significantly below the federal government’s set rate. Expressing confidence in the TCP’s intervention, he assured farmers that cotton prices would rebound, thus rewarding them for their hard work.
Naqvi appealed to farmers to retain their produce and refrain from selling cotton at lower prices. He assured them that the government stands in solidarity with the farmers and will continue to provide support in this situation.
