This year’s Independence Day was no exception, with numerous accidents and casualties reported across Punjab, highlighting the need for better safety measures during such celebrations.

In the province of Punjab, a total of 1,659 car accidents, 17 deaths, and 1,773 injuries were reported on Independence Day. Lahore, the capital city of Punjab, saw the highest number of road accidents and incidents of aerial shootings. Tragically, these incidents resulted in the death of a seven-year-old child in Badami Bagh and a young man in Shahdara Town.

A particularly heartbreaking incident occurred at Minar-i-Pakistan, where a young man celebrating Independence Day with his two sisters was fatally struck by a stray bullet. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the potential dangers posed by celebratory aerial shootings.

The Emergency Service Department (ESD) reported a total of 1,234 vehicle accidents across the province on the day before Independence Day, resulting in nine deaths and 1,338 injuries. A significant number of these injuries were critical, including deep head injuries and multiple fractures.

The majority of the accidents involved motorbikes, accounting for 72 percent of the incidents. The report emphasizes the importance of effective enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline to reduce the number of road traffic crashes involving motorbikes.

The statistics also reveal that a wide range of vehicles, including motorbikes, auto-rickshaws, motorcars, vans, buses, lorries, and other vehicles, were involved in these accidents. The victims included drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and even underage drivers.

These incidents highlight the need for increased public awareness, stricter enforcement of traffic laws, and measures to discourage dangerous celebratory practices like aerial shootings. Ultimately, ensuring public safety during festive occasions like Independence Day requires the collective efforts of authorities, communities, and individuals to prevent tragic accidents and uphold the spirit of celebration in a safe manner.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
