Hundreds Pakistani Migrants rescued from Human Traffickers

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]In a recent law enforcement operation in the seaside city of Tobruk in northern Libya, 385 Pakistani migrants were rescued from human traffickers’ warehouses.

The Associated Press reported on Tuesday that the rescue took place in the Al Khueir area, south of Tobruk, and that the migrants were released early on Monday.

Al-Abreen, a Tobruk-based migrants’ rights organisation, confirmed the presence of at least 11 children, some of whom were under the age of ten. Some of the rescued migrants were discovered to be sick with various ailments, including scabies, and were given much-needed food.

In response to the rescue operation, authorities transferred the vast majority of the rescued migrants to a facility in Qunfudhah, near Benghazi. However, 45 people are still being held.

There have been no official pronouncements from either the Libyan or Pakistani governments as of yet, but it is expected that these migrants would be deported.

The refugees were discovered in deplorable conditions, according to videos and photos posted on Al-Abreen’s Facebook page. Hundreds of individuals were observed sitting on the ground, clearly in need.

Volunteers and relief workers were seen delivering food and drink, with captions noting that the migrants had not eaten in three days and were in desperate need of basic essentials.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
