Mourning processions are being held in various cities and towns across all four provinces, accompanied by stringent security measures, which have affected mobile phones and internet services in sensitive areas.

Different provinces have enlisted the help of the Frontier Corps (FC) and the paramilitary Rangers, deploying them along with provincial and district police personnel at various points to ensure security.

The processions conclude at specific locations where Shaam-e-Ghariban is observed. During this time, religious scholars (Ulema) and orators (Zakireen) recount the events of Karbala and impart the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the other martyrs of the tragic event.

In Lahore, the main Zuljinnah procession starts from Nisar Haveli, Mochi Gate, following its traditional route through various areas, with mourners holding Majalis-e-Azadari at major intersections, expressing their profound emotions and connection with Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions through self-flagellation.

The Lahore Police have taken strict security measures, including positioning snipers on rooftops along the procession route.

In Karachi, the central procession begins at Nishtar Park, and arrangements for water, tabarruk, and niyaz have been made along the way to facilitate the mourners.

In Quetta, the central procession departs from Nasirabad Imambargah, led by Balochistan Shia Conference President Jawad Rafi. Security check posts have been established at various entry points to oversee the 36 mourning processions in the city.

In Gilgit, the main procession originates from Central Imamia Mosque and later returns there after following its traditional routes. Mourners offer Zuhr prayers at Captain Zameer Abbas Chowk and attend majalis at various Imambargahs during the night.

In Peshawar, the police have sealed the routes of the mourning processions and set up a central control room in Kohat Gate area, along with a sub-control room in Saddar, to closely monitor the events. Live monitoring, special lighting, and generators have been arranged after consultation with the Shia community.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a statement, remembering the significance of Karbala and emphasizing the timeless lessons of unyielding faith, righteousness, and justice derived from Imam Husain’s sacrifice, urging the public to learn from this historical tragedy.

The companions of Imam Hussain (RA), similarly, “taught us the importance of loyalty, righteousness, and supporting those who struggle for truth and justice,” President Arif Alvi said in a speech to the nation.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the foreign minister, also paid respect to the Karbala martyrs on Twitter.
