Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has expanded its operations in Pakistan with a new grain storage facility. The facility has been established in Multan with a capacity of around 40,000 metric tons.
The new site is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen its agricultural supply chain. It is also located at LDC’s first company-owned industrial site in Pakistan.
The facility will support grain storage and related supply chain activities. It is expected to improve the company’s ability to serve customers across the region.
Rubens Marques, LDC’s Head of South and Southeast Asia, highlighted Pakistan’s importance to the company. He described the country as an important grain market in South Asia.
Marques said the investment would strengthen the company’s position in the domestic market. It will also help LDC respond to changing customer requirements.
The company has operated in Pakistan since 2010. During this period, it has developed activities across several agricultural commodities.
Its operations include cotton, grains, oilseeds, pulses, rice and sugar. Wheat is also among the company’s key markets in the country.
The new storage facility adds to LDC’s existing operations in Pakistan. It is expected to provide additional capacity for handling grain products.
Muhammad Danyal, LDC’s Country Head for Pakistan, also discussed the investment. He serves as Head of Grains and Oilseeds for Pakistan.
Danyal said the country’s agricultural base offers continued business opportunities. He also pointed to increasing demand for grains as a key market factor.
According to Danyal, investment in logistics infrastructure can benefit the agricultural supply chain. It can improve services for both suppliers and customers.
Better infrastructure can also support more efficient commodity handling and storage. The investment is expected to contribute to local employment opportunities as well.
Pakistan remains one of South Asia’s major agricultural markets. The country is also among the world’s largest wheat producers and consumers.
A population exceeding 250 million supports strong demand for food and agricultural products. Wheat therefore remains an important part of the country’s agricultural economy.
The Multan facility comes as LDC continues to develop its presence in Pakistan. Its location will support the company’s grain-related activities in an important agricultural region.
