The Sindh cabinet on Tuesday approved a package of tax and registration incentives for electric vehicles (EVs).
The incentives will be extended for another two years as part of efforts to promote clean and sustainable transportation.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
The chief minister said promoting electric vehicles would help reduce dependence on imported fuel.
He also said increased EV adoption could lower carbon emissions and improve air quality across the province.
Under the approved package, the registration fee for electric vehicles will remain at Rs1,000.
The annual motor vehicle tax for non-commercial electric vehicles will also remain at Rs500.
Electric motorcycles will be subject to a one-time lifetime motor vehicle tax of Rs500.
Electric vehicles with engine capacities equivalent to 2,000cc or above will attract a luxury tax of Rs5,000.
The cabinet has also approved a Rs1,000 penalty for delayed registration of electric vehicles.
The incentives will remain applicable from May 30, 2026, to May 29, 2028.
This effectively extends the existing tax and registration concessions for non-commercial electric vehicles for another two years.
The Sindh cabinet approved the package following a proposal submitted by the Excise Department.
The provincial government believes continued tax relief will encourage more people to shift toward electric transportation.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said electric vehicles were an important part of the government’s strategy for environmentally friendly transport.
He said wider use of EVs could reduce the province’s reliance on imported fuel and help tackle air pollution.
The chief minister also stressed the importance of continued incentives for encouraging electric vehicle adoption.
According to the government, the measures could also support investment in Sindh’s growing electric mobility sector.
The decision comes as electric vehicles are gaining greater attention in Pakistan because of rising fuel costs and environmental concerns.
The Sindh government said the new measures are aimed at supporting cleaner transportation and improving air quality.
The extended incentives are expected to provide buyers with additional financial relief when registering eligible electric vehicles in the province.
