Irish Mountaineer Goes Missing on Musa Da Mussala

An Irish mountaineer has gone missing while descending Musa Da Mussala peak in Siran Valley amid rainy and difficult weather conditions.

The peak stands at more than 13,500 feet and is located in Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Police, law enforcement agencies and Rescue 1122 have launched a joint search operation to locate the missing climber.

SP Central Shahnawaz Khan identified the missing mountaineer as Alexander.

Alexander had traveled to Siran Valley with British national Alun David Cooper Cledwyn to climb Musa Da Mussala.

According to police, the two mountaineers first visited Gilgit-Baltistan before traveling to Siran Valley.

They reached a resort in Mandachucha and stayed there on Friday night.

The climbers started their ascent the following morning and successfully reached the summit of Musa Da Mussala.

However, they later decided to use separate walking tracks while descending from the mountain.

Police said the decision was made during rainy weather as the two attempted to make their return journey more adventurous.

Cledwyn successfully completed his descent and reached the Mandachucha resort on Sunday.

Alexander, however, failed to return to the resort and has remained missing since then.

Police were informed about the disappearance and immediately began efforts to locate him.

SP Central Shahnawaz Khan traveled to Siran Valley with five teams to oversee the search operation.

The operation includes police personnel, other law enforcement agencies and Rescue 1122 teams.

Search teams are working in difficult terrain and challenging weather conditions to trace the missing mountaineer.

Authorities are also assessing possible routes taken by Alexander during his descent from the peak.

Police said the two foreign mountaineers had traveled to Siran Valley without obtaining a no-objection certificate from police and other relevant departments.

Officials have not yet confirmed Alexander’s location or provided details about his current condition.

The search operation is continuing as authorities remain focused on finding the missing climber.

The incident highlights the risks faced by mountaineers when navigating high-altitude terrain during adverse weather.
