Islamabad witnessed intense rainfall on Tuesday, with around 150 millimetres of rain reported in just a few minutes in parts of the capital.
The E-11 sector was among the worst-affected areas as heavy rain caused sewer overflows and water accumulation on roads.
The sudden downpour overwhelmed drainage systems, leaving several roads submerged and creating difficulties for commuters.
Rainwater also entered several basements in the affected area. Some of these properties had already been sealed by the district administration.
The Islamabad district administration has started de-watering operations to remove accumulated rainwater from affected locations.
The operations are being carried out rapidly under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad.
Officials are working to clear roads and reduce the impact of water accumulation following the intense rainfall.
The heavy rain also affected traffic movement across several parts of Islamabad. Traffic flow on major roads, including the Expressway, slowed because of accumulated water.
Traffic police personnel have been deployed to assist motorists and manage traffic in affected areas.
Meanwhile, rescue operations are continuing in D-12/2 following the collapse of a protective wall.
Authorities said no loss of life or property had been reported in connection with the wall collapse so far.
The latest rainfall has once again highlighted the challenges faced by Islamabad during periods of intense monsoon activity.
Residents have been advised to remain cautious while travelling through areas affected by water accumulation and drainage overflows.
The district administration and relevant departments are continuing efforts to manage the situation and restore normal traffic flow.
The heavy rainfall comes as several parts of Pakistan remain under the influence of active monsoon weather systems.
Weather authorities have warned that intense rainfall can increase the risk of urban flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and locations with limited drainage capacity.
