Pakistan’s electricity consumers may face another increase in their power bills as NEPRA considers a Rs2.52 per unit tariff hike.
The proposed increase is linked to the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism for July 2026.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to NEPRA for the adjustment.
NEPRA is scheduled to hear the request today before deciding the final amount.
If approved, the proposed increase will apply to consumers for one month.
The final impact on electricity bills will depend on NEPRA’s decision after reviewing the CPPA request.
According to the application, electricity generation costs remained high during July.
Power generated through diesel reached a cost of up to Rs50 per unit during the month.
Imported coal-based electricity generation was also expensive, with costs reaching Rs54.47 per unit.
Electricity generated using imported LNG cost Rs47.37 per unit during July.
These higher generation costs have contributed to the request for an upward adjustment in consumer tariffs.
The monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism is used to account for changes in electricity generation costs.
The adjustment can result in increases or decreases in electricity bills depending on fuel prices and generation costs.
The proposed July adjustment comes shortly after another increase approved by the regulator.
NEPRA recently approved a Rs0.75 per unit increase under the June 2026 monthly fuel adjustment.
