Pakistan Railways to Resume Babu Passenger Train After 6 Years

Pakistan Railways has announced the restoration of the Babu Passenger Train, which will resume operations from August 20, 2026, after remaining suspended for nearly six years.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi said the decision was taken in response to repeated demands from passengers and growing public need for the service.

Train to operate between Lahore and Lala Musa

The Babu Passenger Train operates on the Lahore-Lala Musa route, connecting several important stations along the way.

The route includes Badami Bagh, Shahdara Bagh, Kala Shah Kaku, Muridke, Sadhoki, Kamoki, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Gujrat and Lala Musa.

The restoration is expected to provide another travel option for passengers commuting between Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lala Musa and other areas along the route.

Train remained suspended for six years

The railway service was suspended during the coronavirus pandemic and did not return to operation for several years.

According to the announcement, passengers had repeatedly called for the train to be restored, prompting the government to consider public requirements and bring the service back.

Federal Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi directed the restoration as part of efforts to make Pakistan Railways more active and improve facilities for passengers.

More suspended trains may return

Abbasi said the government plans to restore more suspended trains during the current year as part of its efforts to improve railway services across the country.

He said the government is working in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of making Pakistan Railways more active and improving passenger facilities.

The return of the Babu Passenger Train is therefore being seen as another step toward expanding railway services and addressing the transportation needs of passengers.

With operations scheduled to restart on August 20, passengers travelling between Lahore and Lala Musa will once again have access to the train service after a prolonged suspension.
