Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered an immediate survey of unsafe and deteriorating buildings across the province.
The survey will be conducted after the monsoon season ends. The move aims to identify buildings that may pose risks to residents and the public.
Maryam Nawaz issued the directive during a meeting on the Punjab Development Programme (PDP). The meeting reviewed progress on projects included in Phase-I of the programme.
Deputy commissioners from different districts attended the meeting through video link. Officials presented updates on development schemes and their progress.
The chief minister also directed authorities to speed up the completion of Phase-I projects. She asked officials to ensure that ongoing schemes are completed without unnecessary delays.
Maryam Nawaz further ordered an impact study of sewerage and drainage projects. The study will assess how these schemes have affected drainage conditions in different areas.
She also directed officials to prepare a detailed case study on Phase-I of the PDP. Public feedback will also be collected to evaluate the results of development projects.
During the meeting, officials reviewed development schemes across several cities and districts. These included Vehari, Burewala, Tandlianwala, and Jaranwala.
Projects in Jalalpur Jattan, Sambrial, Muridke, Khudian, and Kabirwala were also reviewed. Other areas included Chak Jhumra, Bhalwal, Attock, Kamalia, and Toba Tek Singh.
Development schemes in Gojra, Ali Pur Chattha, Chichawatni, Daska, and Layyah were also discussed. Officials also reviewed projects in Sillanwali, Wazirabad, Bahawalnagar, and Mailsi.
Progress reports from several major districts were presented during the meeting. These included Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, and Sheikhupura.
Officials also shared updates from Nankana Sahib, Rawalpindi, and Sialkot. The reports covered progress on development schemes under Phase-I.
The meeting was also informed about underground storage tanks across the province. Officials said these tanks are fully operational in 29 cities.
Construction work on underground storage tanks is currently underway in another 21 cities. The initiative is aimed at improving water management and drainage capacity.
The chief minister said newly installed sewerage systems had improved drainage conditions. She noted that several cities had benefited from the upgraded systems.
Maryam Nawaz praised officials for their work during the monsoon season. She specifically appreciated deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners.
She also recognized the efforts of Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) officials. Suthra Punjab teams were also praised for their performance.
The chief minister appreciated officers and staff who worked around the clock. Their efforts focused on providing assistance to citizens during heavy rainfall.
The planned building survey will begin after the monsoon season. Authorities will assess unsafe structures and identify buildings requiring attention.
The government has also emphasized completing development projects and assessing their impact. Public feedback will form part of the evaluation process.
