Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has given the Motorway Police one month to eliminate corruption from its ranks.
He warned that officials involved in bribery or other corrupt practices would face strict action. Such officials could be dismissed from service and face criminal cases.
The minister issued the directions during a video-link meeting with the All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance. Senior government officials and transport sector representatives also attended the meeting.
Khan instructed the inspector general of motorways to remove officials involved in corruption. He described corrupt officials as “black sheep” within the system.
The minister said there would be no place for such officials in the department. He stressed the need to improve accountability and ensure transparent enforcement.
Khan also ordered the immediate implementation of the axle load policy. Under the policy, overloaded vehicles will not be permitted to use Pakistan’s motorways.
The minister welcomed the support shown by goods transport owners for the policy. He urged transporters to cooperate with the government.
He said joint efforts were necessary to protect the country’s motorways and highways from damage. The axle load policy is aimed at reducing excessive pressure on road infrastructure.
During the meeting, transport representatives highlighted several concerns. These included issues linked to the axle load policy and SRO-related matters.
Transporters also discussed difficulties faced by vehicles while using the motorways. They raised other operational concerns affecting the goods transport sector.
Khan assured the representatives that genuine demands would be addressed promptly. He also promised priority action on issues affecting the Mazda Association and 10-wheelers.
The minister urged transporters to avoid taking extreme steps over their concerns. He encouraged them to use dialogue to resolve disagreements with the government.
Khan invited representatives of the goods transport sector to Islamabad on Monday. Further discussions will focus on resolving their outstanding concerns.
The meeting comes as the government seeks stronger cooperation with the transport industry. Officials aim to improve road safety while protecting major transport routes.
The minister stressed that all stakeholders must work together in the national interest. He said cooperation between the government and transporters remains important.
The government also wants to address industry concerns while enforcing road regulations. Meanwhile, the Motorway Police has been directed to ensure strict action against corruption.
Khan’s one-month deadline places greater responsibility on senior officials. It also signals tougher accountability for officers accused of misconduct.
