Malir River Bridge to Remain Closed on July 18 and 19 for Construction (2)

The Karachi Traffic Police has announced a temporary closure of the Malir River Bridge on Karachi’s National Highway. Both carriageways of the bridge will remain closed from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on July 18 and July 19 due to construction work linked to the under-construction Malir Expressway.

According to the traffic police, the closure falls within the jurisdiction of the Malir City Traffic Section. The temporary traffic restrictions have been introduced to ensure the safe and timely completion of the ongoing development work.

Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and use the alternative routes announced by the authorities. Traffic officials expect the closure to affect the movement of vehicles during daytime hours on both days.

The Karachi Traffic Police said commuters traveling from Quaidabad should take a U-turn at the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Expressway. From there, they can continue their journey towards Malir City using the designated diversion.

Drivers approaching from Malook Hotel on the National Highway have also been given an alternate route. They should pass underneath the Malir River Bridge and continue towards the Steel Mills area to avoid the closed section.

Officials said these diversions have been planned to reduce traffic congestion and maintain the flow of vehicles while construction work continues. Traffic police personnel will remain present throughout the closure period to guide motorists and manage traffic at key points.

The temporary closure is part of the ongoing work on the Malir Expressway project. Authorities said the construction requires road restrictions to allow workers to safely complete important development activities.

The Karachi Traffic Police has requested all road users to cooperate with officials and carefully follow traffic instructions. Drivers have also been advised to allow extra travel time because traffic volume may increase on the alternate routes.

Officials believe that following the suggested diversions will help reduce unnecessary delays and improve traffic management during the construction period.

The Malir River Bridge is an important route for thousands of commuters traveling between different parts of Karachi. As a result, authorities expect a noticeable increase in traffic on nearby roads during the daytime closure.

To help the public, traffic officers will remain deployed at various locations around the affected area. Their role will be to direct vehicles, answer questions, and assist drivers in reaching their destinations through the available alternate routes.

Citizens can also contact the Karachi Traffic Police Helpline by dialing 1915 if they need traffic-related assistance during the closure. In addition, commuters can listen to Sindh Police FM Radio 88.6 for the latest traffic updates and road information.

Authorities have urged residents to stay informed before leaving home and avoid unnecessary travel through the affected area during construction hours. Checking traffic updates in advance can help drivers choose the best available route.
