Police have arrested three officials of Sozo Water Park in Lahore following the tragic death of a nine-year-old girl who drowned after falling into an open drain hole inside the swimming pool area. The incident has raised serious concerns about safety measures at recreational facilities during the busy summer season.
The victim, identified as Ramin Fatima, reportedly became trapped in a drainage pipe after falling through an uncovered main drain opening in the pool. Authorities said the drain hole did not have a protective cover or safety grill, which allegedly led to the fatal accident.
According to police, a case has been registered at Bata Pur Police Station on the complaint of the girl’s mother. Investigators have collected evidence from the scene and are examining all aspects of the incident to determine responsibility.
The arrested individuals include the park manager, the security in-charge, and the CCTV in-charge. Police said the arrests were made over alleged negligence, adding that anyone found responsible for carelessness would face legal action without exception.
Officials said the investigation is continuing and further arrests could be made if additional evidence points to the involvement of other individuals. Authorities also assured the victim’s family that all legal procedures would be followed to ensure justice is served.
The incident has renewed concerns over safety standards at water parks, particularly during the summer months when thousands of families visit such facilities to escape the heat. Experts stress that proper maintenance, covered drainage systems, and strict safety inspections are essential to prevent similar tragedies.
Authorities have urged operators of recreational parks to ensure all safety measures are fully implemented to protect visitors, especially children. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
