The Lahore Traffic Police has proposed restricting the movement of heavy waste management vehicles to 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. in an effort to improve road safety and ease daytime traffic congestion across the city.
The recommendation was made by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Raheem in a letter sent to the Suthra Punjab Authority after several fatal accidents involving vehicles operating under the Suthra Punjab Program and the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC).
According to traffic police, four accidents involving waste management vehicles during 2025-26 resulted in 10 deaths, prompting authorities to propose limiting heavy vehicle operations on major roads during peak traffic hours.
Officials said the suggested schedule would allow waste collection and cleaning activities to continue during the night while reducing accident risks and minimizing disruptions for commuters during the day.
In addition to the revised operating hours, the traffic police has recommended mandatory road safety training for heavy vehicle drivers, stricter monitoring of their activities, and stronger legal action against drivers found guilty of negligence.
Separately, Lahore Traffic Police has suspended the driving licenses of 68 motorists involved in traffic accidents on the instructions of the CTO. Authorities said drivers involved in fatal or serious accidents will have their licenses suspended immediately, while anyone driving with a suspended license will face criminal proceedings.
CTO Syed Abdul Raheem reaffirmed the department’s commitment to strict enforcement of traffic laws, stating that reckless drivers will face lengthy license suspensions and additional legal action to help improve road safety across Lahore.
