Goods Transporters to Protest Against Token and Toll Taxes

Goods transporters in Faisalabad have announced a protest against rising token and toll taxes, saying the increasing financial burden is making it difficult to continue their business operations. The transporters have urged the government to reduce the taxes and address their concerns through dialogue before the situation worsens.

According to the Mini Mazda Association, the protest will be held on July 21 in Faisalabad. The association said the demonstration is intended to highlight the difficulties faced by small goods transporters due to increasing operating costs and higher government charges.

Chairman of the Mini Mazda Association, Chaudhry Aslam, said transporters are demanding a reduction in both token and toll taxes. He stated that the current tax structure has placed additional pressure on transport operators, affecting their ability to run their businesses efficiently.

Aslam said the association does not want to resort to a strike and prefers to resolve the matter through negotiations with the government. He emphasized that transporters are seeking a practical solution that provides relief while ensuring the smooth movement of goods across the region.

The association believes that reducing taxes would help lower operational costs for transporters, many of whom are already dealing with rising fuel prices, vehicle maintenance expenses and other business-related costs. Members say these challenges are reducing their profits and making it increasingly difficult to remain financially stable.

Transporters have urged the relevant authorities to engage with their representatives before the planned protest and consider their demands. They hope constructive discussions will lead to a mutually acceptable solution without disrupting transport services.

Chaudhry Aslam warned that if the government fails to respond positively after the July 21 protest, the association will announce its next course of action. He said future decisions will depend on the authorities’ response to the demands raised by transporters.

The planned protest highlights growing concerns within Pakistan’s transport sector over increasing operational expenses. Industry representatives continue to call for policies that balance government revenue needs with the financial sustainability of transport businesses.
