Murree is experiencing a massive surge in tourist arrivals during the holiday season, leading to heavy traffic congestion across the popular hill station. Visitors planning a trip are advised to expect significant travel delays, particularly due to ongoing road construction on Mall Road and several other key routes.
Authorities have also urged tourists to reserve hotel rooms before traveling, as many hotels have already reached full occupancy because of the large number of visitors.
During the weekend, thousands of tourists traveled to Murree, resulting in severe traffic jams on the Murree Expressway and other major roads. Long queues of vehicles caused hours-long delays for both incoming and outgoing traffic, making travel difficult throughout the area.
Officials warned that the number of visitors is expected to increase further over the coming days, putting additional pressure on the hill station’s road network. Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys carefully and allow extra travel time, as traffic congestion is likely to continue.
Despite the traffic situation, tourists are enjoying pleasant weather in Murree. On Sunday, the temperature was recorded at 23°C, with cloudy skies and a feels-like temperature of 24°C. Humidity remained high at 75%, while winds were blowing at around 12 kilometres per hour. Due to reduced visibility caused by cloud cover, drivers have been advised to exercise extra caution, especially in construction zones.
Meanwhile, the City Traffic Police Murree has intensified its enforcement campaign against motorists driving without valid licences. Acting on the instructions of DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir, traffic officials have increased inspections at key roads and checkpoints across the city.
Under the supervision of Chief Traffic Officer Munir Ahmed Hashmi, hundreds of challans have been issued to drivers and motorcyclists found violating traffic laws, while legal action has also been initiated against offenders.
Traffic police have appealed to both residents and tourists to carry valid driving licences, obey traffic regulations, and cooperate with authorities. Officials emphasized that following traffic rules is essential for ensuring road safety and reducing congestion during the busy holiday season in Murree.
