South Air Launches First Commercial Passenger Flight from Karachi to Turbat

South Air will begin its commercial passenger operations on July 16, 2026, with its first scheduled flight between Karachi and Turbat. The launch marks the official entry of Pakistan’s newest private domestic airline into the country’s aviation sector.

The airline started accepting bookings on July 10, allowing passengers to reserve seats before the inaugural flight. According to the airline, the first commercial service will be operated using an ATR 72 turboprop aircraft, which is widely used on short regional routes.

The launch of South Air is expected to improve domestic air travel by offering better connectivity between major cities and regions that have fewer flight options. The airline plans to focus on regional destinations and expand its network over time.

Before starting commercial services, the airline completed several operational and regulatory requirements. It had already conducted a successful trial flight in May as part of the certification process.

The test flight operated from Karachi to the New Gwadar International Airport. It was carried out to demonstrate the airline’s operational readiness and meet aviation safety requirements. The flight was part of the approval process before launching regular passenger services.

After completing the required inspections and regulatory checks, South Air received the necessary aviation licence to begin scheduled domestic operations. This approval cleared the way for the airline to officially enter Pakistan’s commercial aviation market.

The airline will initially operate ATR 72 aircraft across its domestic network. These aircraft are designed for short-distance flights and are well suited for regional travel. They can also operate from smaller airports with shorter runways, making them ideal for connecting underserved cities.

This fleet choice supports the airline’s goal of improving access to areas that currently have limited air services. By serving regional airports, the carrier hopes to make domestic travel more convenient for passengers.

The Karachi-Turbat route will be the airline’s first regular commercial service. More domestic destinations are expected to be added as operations expand. The airline’s website already lists several current and planned routes across Pakistan.

The arrival of another private airline could also increase competition in Pakistan’s domestic aviation industry. Greater competition often gives passengers more travel choices and may improve overall service quality.

The launch comes at a time when demand for domestic air travel continues to grow. Regional connectivity has become increasingly important for business travelers, tourists, and residents of remote areas.
