Punjab to Launch New Electric Bus Service on Two Key Routes

Sialkot is preparing to launch a new Electric Bus Service later this month, giving residents a cleaner, more affordable, and environmentally friendly way to travel. The project aims to improve public transportation while supporting sustainable mobility across the district.

According to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the first phase of the Electric Bus Service will begin with 10 electric buses. The buses will operate on two important routes connecting Sialkot with nearby areas.

Officials said four buses will run between Sialkot and Daska, while six buses will operate on the Sialkot-Pasrur route. These routes have been selected to improve daily commuting for thousands of passengers.

Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali confirmed that the buses have already reached Sialkot. She also said the required charging infrastructure has been completed before the official launch.

Authorities have taken several steps to ensure the smooth operation of the new transport system. Charging stations are ready, and supporting facilities have been completed ahead of the service becoming operational.

To improve passenger convenience, the district administration has established 46 bus shelters across different locations. These shelters will provide safer and more comfortable waiting areas for commuters.

Officials are also finalizing designated bus stops on both routes. Every stop will be geo-tagged to improve route management, passenger access, and operational efficiency.

According to the District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA), the Electric Bus Service is expected to benefit around 10,000 passengers every day. Officials believe the project will significantly improve public transport in the district.

The new buses are expected to reduce travel costs for commuters while providing a more comfortable and reliable transport option. Electric vehicles also produce lower emissions than conventional buses, making them a more environmentally friendly choice.

Authorities said the project is part of broader efforts to modernize public transportation and promote sustainable travel across Punjab. Cleaner transport options are expected to improve air quality while reducing dependence on fuel-powered vehicles.

The administration hopes more residents will choose public transport once the new service begins. Increased use of buses could also help reduce traffic congestion on busy roads and improve the overall transportation system.

Officials believe the project will strengthen connectivity between Sialkot, Daska, and Pasrur. Better transport links are expected to support local businesses, students, workers, and daily commuters.
