BSEK Delays Matric Science Results for Verification

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has postponed the announcement of the Matric Science examination results by two days after an unusually large number of students secured top grades. The board said the delay is necessary to complete an additional verification process aimed at ensuring the accuracy and transparency of the final results.

According to BSEK, a special review process, referred to as “super checking,” has been launched for students who obtained A-1 and A grades. The board said the verification is being carried out to confirm that all results have been compiled correctly before they are officially announced.

Acting Chairman Masharraf Rajput said nearly 175,000 students appeared in this year’s Matric Science examinations. Of these, around 86,000 students secured A-1 and A grades. He explained that the board decided to conduct an additional review after noticing that the number of top grades was significantly higher than the previous year’s results.

The acting chairman said the verification process is being handled by experienced and reputable teachers instead of regular board staff. During the review, compiled results are being matched with manual award sheets and answer scripts to identify and correct any possible errors before the final result is released.

Rajput said the purpose of the exercise is to ensure complete transparency and maintain public confidence in the examination system. He added that the board wants to eliminate any doubts regarding the authenticity of the results and ensure that every student’s marks are accurate.

The board also shared an update regarding its planned introduction of an electronic marking (e-marking) system for Class 10 Mathematics and Computer Science papers. According to officials, the project could not be fully implemented this year because software testing remained incomplete and the required servers had not yet been procured.

As part of the pilot project, BSEK conducted a trial e-marking exercise on approximately 62,000 Computer Science answer scripts. However, officials found a 35 percent variation between electronic marking and manual checking, raising concerns about the system’s accuracy. Following the trial, the board decided to continue using manual checking for this year’s Matric Science examinations.

BSEK said efforts are continuing to improve the e-marking system before expanding it to future examinations, including Class 9. The board hopes the upgraded system will eventually enhance efficiency and reduce the time required for result preparation while maintaining accuracy and fairness in the examination process.
