The Lahore Traffic Police has extended the deadline for installing the QR Panic Button in public transport vehicles, online cabs, and rickshaws until July 10. The extension gives transport operators additional time to meet the mandatory safety requirement.
The announcement was made by Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi. The decision is part of the city’s ongoing campaign against vehicles operating without the required QR Panic Button system.
Authorities have directed public transport operators, online cab companies, and rickshaw unions to complete the installation before the new deadline. Officials said all concerned drivers should use the extra time to comply with the legal requirement.
The CTO warned that strict action will begin after July 10 against vehicles that fail to install the QR Panic Button. Transport operators who do not comply may face legal penalties under the enforcement campaign.
According to the Lahore Traffic Police, more than 12,000 online cabs and rickshaws have already been equipped with the system across the city. Officials said the installation campaign has made significant progress, but more vehicles still need to complete the process.
To support drivers and transport owners, special traffic police teams are working in 45 sectors of Lahore. These teams are helping with installations and providing guidance to vehicle owners during the campaign.
The QR Panic Button is designed to improve passenger safety by providing a faster way to report emergencies. Authorities believe the system will strengthen security measures for people using public transport, online ride services, and rickshaws.
Shirazi also announced that four new licensing centers have been established following requests from rickshaw unions. The new centers are expected to reduce waiting times and make registration procedures easier for drivers.
Officials said the additional facilities will help transport operators complete licensing, registration, and other legal requirements more efficiently. The goal is to ensure more vehicles meet the safety standards before the extended deadline.
The Lahore Traffic Police urged all transporters to avoid waiting until the last day. Completing the installation early will help prevent delays and reduce the risk of enforcement action after July 10.
Authorities said the campaign will continue until every eligible vehicle is equipped with the required safety system. They added that improving passenger protection remains a key priority for traffic police across Lahore.
