Balochistan to Launch Convoy System for Safer Highway Travel

The Balochistan government has decided to introduce a convoy system on major highways to improve road security across the province. The new measure aims to protect cargo trucks, passenger coaches, and people traveling by road.

The decision was announced during a meeting between Additional Chief Secretary Home Hamza Shafqaat and representatives of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The meeting focused on the growing security concerns affecting transport and trade in the province.

Officials said safe travel and smooth transportation remain the government’s top priorities. They added that every possible effort will be made to improve security on highways and restore confidence among travelers and transport operators.

Under the new plan, cargo vehicles traveling from the Taftan border to Quetta and other parts of Pakistan will move in organized security convoys. The convoy system is expected to reduce risks for transporters and ensure the safe movement of goods across the province.

The Balochistan government believes this step will help strengthen road safety and support business activities. It also hopes the system will improve transport operations on routes that have faced repeated security threats.

During the meeting, representatives of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry shared their concerns about the current security situation. They said attacks on cargo trucks, LPG bowsers, and other commercial vehicles have continued on several highways.

Business leaders also highlighted the rise in highway robberies. They said these incidents have created fear among transporters, importers, exporters, passengers, and the general public. According to them, the security situation has also affected the smooth movement of trade.

The chamber urged the government to introduce stronger security measures to protect commercial transport and public travel. It also requested better coordination between security agencies and transport authorities.

Hamza Shafqaat assured the business community that the government is taking the issue seriously. He said authorities are committed to making highways safer for both commercial and public transport.

The planned convoy system is part of broader efforts to improve law and order on key transport routes. Officials believe better security will encourage trade and reduce risks for transport companies operating in the province.

The Balochistan government is expected to launch the convoy system soon. More operational details are likely to be shared after coordination with the relevant departments.
