Maryam Nawaz Expands Electric Bus Service to 6 More Districts

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expanded the province’s electric Green Bus Service to six more districts, marking another step in the government’s plan to provide affordable and environmentally friendly public transportation across Punjab. The latest phase extends the service to Attock, Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Khanewal, and Khushab, bringing modern commuting facilities to thousands of additional residents.

According to the Punjab government, passengers will be able to travel on the new air-conditioned electric buses for a flat fare of Rs. 20. The initiative is aimed at making public transport more accessible while reducing environmental pollution through the use of electric vehicles. Officials said the buses offer a comfortable, affordable, and sustainable travel option for daily commuters across the province.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the Green Bus Service is expanding rapidly as part of the government’s vision to modernize Punjab’s public transport network. She announced that the provincial government plans to have 1,100 electric buses operating across Punjab by the end of this year. The fleet is expected to increase to 1,500 buses next year, with a long-term target of 5,000 electric buses across the province over the next three years.

Maryam Nawaz said the expansion is not limited to major cities and will gradually reach tehsils throughout Punjab without discrimination. She emphasized that improving transportation in smaller districts and tehsils is a key priority to ensure equal access to reliable public transport. The government believes that expanding the service will improve mobility and make daily travel easier for people living outside the province’s major urban centres.

The chief minister noted that women, students, and workers are expected to benefit the most from the Green Bus Service due to its low fare and improved comfort. She added that additional buses will be introduced in phases until every tehsil in Punjab has access to the facility. The government hopes the expansion will reduce dependence on expensive private transport while providing a safer and more efficient commuting experience.

The Green Bus Service forms part of Punjab’s broader strategy to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce vehicle emissions across the province. With the continued addition of electric buses, the government aims to set a new benchmark for affordable, modern, and sustainable public transport while improving connectivity and quality of life for millions of residents.
