Police said the main accused, Ijaz, admitted during questioning that he frequently argued with his father because he was often refused money. Investigators revealed that he had planned the murder several days before the incident.
According to police, Ijaz hired his friend Sheraz to carry out the killing, promising him Rs15,000 and an iPhone as payment. After the murder, the suspects allegedly tried to make the crime appear to be a robbery, but investigators uncovered their plan during the inquiry.
Sheraz, who is described by police as a repeat offender with a previous criminal record, was arrested along with Ijaz. Officers also recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the murder.
The victim, Muhammad Iqbal, was shot and killed inside his home in Ibrahim Hyderi Labour Colony, Karachi, on June 23. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested both suspects six days after the incident.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, the Supreme Court of Pakistan upheld two consecutive life sentences awarded to Taimoor Sattar for murdering his parents over a property dispute. The judgment, written by Justice Hashim Khan Kakar, described the killing of parents inside their own home as one of the gravest crimes, saying such acts damage the moral and social fabric of society.
According to court findings, Sattar attacked his parents with a hammer after they refused to transfer property into his name. While a trial court had initially sentenced him to death, the High Court later reduced the punishment to two life terms. The Supreme Court found no reason to overturn that decision, noting that the accused’s confession matched the prosecution’s evidence. The court also cited his 10-day disappearance after the crime as additional proof of his involvement and dismissed his appeal.
In another recent ruling, the Supreme Court converted the death sentence of a man convicted of raping a 10-year-old girl in Sheikhupura into life imprisonment while maintaining the fine, compensation order, and directions to strengthen police protection around educational institutions.
