Punjab is moving ahead with plans to expand its Electric Buses network to more districts across the province. Kot Addu and Taunsa Sharif are among the latest areas where the service will begin soon. The move is part of the government’s wider effort to improve public transport and promote cleaner travel.
The decision was discussed during a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The meeting reviewed the progress of transport projects and mass transit systems across the province. Officials also shared updates on the ongoing rollout of Electric Buses and other transport initiatives.
During the briefing, officials said that 400 buses currently operating in Punjab will be converted into electric vehicles. This step is aimed at reducing emissions and making public transport more environmentally friendly.
The meeting was also informed that 189 new Electric Buses are already prepared for a soft launch. These buses will be deployed in multiple districts to improve transport services for passengers.
Officials further revealed that another shipment of 488 electric buses is expected soon. The buses are scheduled to leave a Chinese port on July 20 before arriving in Punjab. Once delivered, they will further strengthen the province’s growing electric transport fleet.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the relevant departments to launch electric bus services as early as possible in Kot Addu, Talagang, and Taunsa Sharif. She also ordered officials to start the service in Vehari and Lodhran without unnecessary delays.
The chief minister instructed authorities to increase the number of buses in several districts. She specifically mentioned Vehari, Lodhran, and Nankana Sahib. According to her directions, every district with fewer than 15 buses should receive at least 15 vehicles.
