The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a widespread spell of rain, thunderstorms, and windstorms across several parts of the country during the first week of July as a new weather system approaches Pakistan.
According to the PMD, a westerly wave is expected to enter the upper regions of the country on the evening or night of June 30. At the same time, moist currents from the Arabian Sea are already affecting eastern and central Pakistan, while additional moisture from the Bay of Bengal is expected to reach the upper parts of the country from July 2.
Under the influence of these weather systems, Kashmir is likely to receive scattered rain and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy rainfall, from July 1 to July 6. Areas expected to receive rain include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is forecast from July 1 to July 5. The affected districts include Chitral, Swat, Dir, Malakand, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Waziristan, and several other northern and tribal districts.
Punjab is also expected to receive widespread rainfall between July 1 and July 6. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Attock, Chakwal, and nearby districts are likely to experience rain and thunderstorms. Southern Punjab, including Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Lodhran, Rajanpur, Khanewal, and surrounding areas, is expected to receive rainfall from July 3 to July 5.
The PMD has also predicted rain and thunderstorms in Gilgit-Baltistan, including Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Diamer, Ghizer, Ghanche, Shigar, and Astore, from July 1 to July 5.
