Suspect in Muntaha Zahra Murder Case Killed in Encounter

In a major development in the sexual assault and murder case of young Muntaha Zahra, the main suspect, Muhammad Arslan, was killed during a police encounter conducted by the Punjab Police’s Crime Control Department (CCD) in Sargodha on Wednesday. The incident occurred while investigators were pursuing further evidence linked to the high-profile case that had sparked outrage across the country.

According to CCD officials, the encounter took place near Jhal Chakian Teen Pul when the suspect was being transported for the recovery of evidence related to the investigation. Authorities said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to gather additional material and strengthen the prosecution’s case.

Police officials stated that during the operation, alleged accomplices of the suspect suddenly opened fire on the CCD team. Law enforcement personnel returned fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire in which Muhammad Arslan was killed on the spot. No further details regarding the identities of the attackers were immediately released.

Following the incident, security in the area was increased and additional police personnel were deployed. Authorities also formed special teams to track down and arrest the individuals who allegedly escaped after the shooting. Investigations into the encounter and the involvement of other suspects are continuing.

The case had drawn nationwide attention after the tragic death of Muntaha Zahra. During police interrogation, Arslan had reportedly confessed to sexually assaulting and murdering the minor girl. A court had earlier granted the CCD six-day physical remand of the accused to facilitate further investigation into the crime and identify any accomplices.

The murder case triggered widespread public grief and anger after CCTV footage emerged showing the child entering a shop for the final time. Her body was later recovered from the third floor of the same building. After the incident, Arslan allegedly fled the area but was subsequently located and arrested through investigative efforts and technological assistance. Meanwhile, funeral prayers for Muntaha Zahra were attended by a large number of mourners in Sargodha, where she was laid to rest amid scenes of deep sorrow. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that all individuals connected to the crime are brought before the law.
