Karachi Seals Key Roads for 8th Muharram Procession

Authorities in Karachi have put in place extensive security and traffic management measures for the central procession of 8th Muharram-ul-Haram, aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining order during the religious event. Police and traffic officials have coordinated arrangements across the city to facilitate mourners and manage traffic flow around the procession route.

The central procession is scheduled to commence from Nishtar Park and follow its traditional route before concluding at Imambargah Hussainia Iranian in Kharadar. Security personnel have been deployed along the entire route, while surveillance and monitoring measures have been enhanced to address any potential security concerns during the event.

As part of the security arrangements, several roads and streets in and around Saddar, Regal Chowk, and nearby areas have been closed to vehicular traffic. Authorities have also ordered the temporary closure of shops located along the procession route as a precautionary measure to ensure the smooth conduct of the religious gathering.

Meanwhile, the Karachi Traffic Police (KTP) has announced a special traffic management plan for the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram. Officials stated that the plan is designed to reduce inconvenience for commuters while maintaining uninterrupted traffic movement in areas not directly affected by the processions.

According to a statement issued by the Karachi deputy inspector general’s office, M.A. Jinnah Road will remain closed from Gurumandir to Tower due to security requirements. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and use designated alternative routes to reach their destinations during the procession hours.

Traffic authorities have recommended alternative routes for commuters. Travelers from Nazimabad can proceed via Lasbela Chowk and Nishtar Road toward Garden, while those coming from Liaquatabad have been directed to use Teen Hatti, Lasbela Chowk, and Martin Road. Motorists traveling from Hassan Square toward PIB Colony can use Kashmir Road, Shahrah-i-Quaideen, and the Jail Chowrangi Flyover before connecting to Nishtar Road. Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and follow traffic advisories to ensure smooth movement and public safety during Muharram processions.
