The government has officially reversed its earlier decision to lower speed limits on motorways and national highways, restoring the previous speed limits for all types of vehicles across the country.
According to Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed, cars and other light transport vehicles will once again be permitted to travel at speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour on motorways. Similarly, the speed limit for passenger buses and heavy transport vehicles has been restored to 110 kilometres per hour.
The spokesperson also confirmed that the original speed limits applicable to national highways have been reinstated. The move ends the temporary restrictions that had been introduced as part of measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption and improving energy efficiency.
Authorities said the decision was taken after reviewing the situation and considering the needs of road users. The restoration of the previous limits is expected to provide greater convenience for motorists, transport operators, and commuters who regularly travel on the country’s road network.
Despite the increase in allowable speeds, the National Highways and Motorway Police emphasized that road safety remains its highest priority. Officials urged drivers to continue observing traffic laws and exercise responsible driving habits while using highways and motorways.
Motorists were advised to wear seat belts at all times, maintain safe driving practices, and ensure that vehicles remain under control, particularly during long-distance journeys. The Motorway Police also reminded drivers to avoid reckless driving and remain attentive to road conditions to help prevent accidents.
Syed Imran Ahmed stated that while the restoration of the previous speed limits is intended to facilitate travelers, it should not be interpreted as a relaxation of safety standards. He stressed that strict enforcement of traffic regulations will continue and that violations of speed limits and other road safety rules will be dealt with according to the law.
The revised decision restores the speed framework that was in place before the temporary restrictions were introduced, allowing motorists to travel under the previously established limits while maintaining a strong focus on public safety
