Punjab Prolongs Summer Vacations for Non-Formal Schools

The Punjab government has announced an extension in summer vacations for all Non-Formal Schools operating across the province due to the ongoing extreme weather conditions. The revised schedule will remain in effect until June 30, 2026, providing additional relief to students, teachers, and school staff during the intense heatwave.

According to an official notification issued by the Directorate General of Literacy and Non-Formal Basic Education, the extension of summer vacations applies to all Non-Formal Basic Education Schools (NFBEs), Non-Formal Education (NFE) schools, and institutions functioning under the GPE TALEEM Program throughout Punjab.

Officials stated that the decision was made after reviewing the prevailing weather situation in different regions of the province. The extension is also in line with the guidelines and provisions outlined in the relevant educational project frameworks. Authorities believe that continuing educational activities during the current weather conditions could pose health risks to students and staff.

The prolonged summer vacations are intended to protect children from exposure to excessive heat, which has affected many areas of Punjab in recent weeks. Temperatures have remained significantly above normal levels, prompting concerns about heat-related illnesses and other health complications.

The notification further instructed all concerned departments, school administrations, and education officials to strictly follow the revised vacation schedule. Educational institutions have been directed to ensure full compliance with the government’s decision and make necessary arrangements accordingly.

The extension of summer vacations reflects the Punjab government’s efforts to prioritize the safety and well-being of students and teachers. Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions and may issue further instructions if required.

Parents and guardians have been advised to take precautionary measures during the hot weather and ensure children remain hydrated and protected from prolonged exposure to high temperatures. The decision is expected to provide temporary relief until weather conditions become more suitable for educational activities to resume safely across the province.
