The City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) has launched a dedicated licensing facility for rickshaw drivers, aimed at making the licence application process more convenient and encouraging greater compliance with traffic laws.
Under the new initiative, rickshaw drivers can apply for driving licences every Sunday at the Manawan Licensing Centre. The facility will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with special arrangements put in place to assist applicants and streamline the process.
Officials said the initiative has been introduced to make licensing services more accessible for rickshaw drivers who may find it difficult to visit licensing centres during regular working days. The move is expected to increase the number of licensed drivers on the roads and promote safer driving practices.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, stated that the primary objective of the program is to strengthen road safety and improve traffic discipline throughout the city. He emphasized that properly trained and licensed drivers are better equipped to understand traffic regulations, road safety guidelines, and responsible driving behavior.
According to the CTO, the special Sunday facility is designed to encourage rickshaw drivers to become part of the formal transport system by obtaining valid driving licences. Authorities believe that bringing more drivers into the legal framework will help reduce traffic violations and improve overall road management.
In addition to licensing services, the City Traffic Police Lahore has also started awareness campaigns, educational lectures, and training sessions for rickshaw drivers. These programs focus on enhancing drivers’ knowledge of traffic rules, safe driving techniques, and professional conduct on the road.
Officials said the training initiatives aim to improve driving standards and create a safer environment for both drivers and passengers. By increasing awareness and encouraging legal compliance, the department hopes to reduce accidents and strengthen public confidence in the city’s transport system.
The special licensing facility reflects CTPL’s ongoing efforts to modernize traffic management, improve road safety, and provide better services to the transport community in Lahore.
