Peshawar Jewellers Stage Shutter-Down Strike Against FBR Raids

Jewellers in Saddar Bazaar, Peshawar, observed a complete shutter-down strike on Thursday. The strike was held in protest against FBR Raids and enforcement actions by tax authorities.

The traders closed all jewellery shops and commercial centers in the area. They also set up a protest camp on Saddar Road. The protesters demanded an end to what they described as harassment linked to FBR Raids.

The protest was led by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Jewelers Association. Its president, Amin Hussain, addressed the gathering and raised concerns over recent enforcement actions.

He stated that jewellers are willing to pay taxes. He also said they are among the major contributors to national revenue. However, he added that FBR Raids and sudden inspections are not a fair way to engage with the business community.

According to the association, the enforcement actions are creating fear in the market. Traders said repeated FBR Raids are disturbing normal business activity. They also claimed that uncertainty is increasing among shopkeepers.

The protesters called for a more respectful and consultative approach. They demanded that tax authorities work with traders instead of conducting surprise checks. They said dialogue is necessary to resolve ongoing issues.

Amin Hussain warned that the protest could expand further if the situation continues. He said the business community may extend the strike across the province if FBR Raids do not stop.

During the shutdown, Saddar Bazaar remained closed. Business activity came to a halt, and customers faced difficulties. The strike affected one of the busiest trading hubs in the city.

Traders stressed that they are not against taxation or regulation. However, they want fair treatment and clear procedures. They said continuous FBR Raids are damaging trust between businesses and authorities.

The association urged the government to take immediate notice of the issue. They called for a balanced policy that protects both revenue collection and business stability.
