Several Cities may Receive Rain Following Extreme Heat

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain, thunderstorms, and dust storms in several areas of Sindh on June 1, offering potential relief to residents who have been enduring intense heatwave conditions over the past few days.

According to the weather forecast, light to moderate rain is expected at isolated locations across the province. Meteorologists believe that a combination of severe heat and westerly weather systems moving across northern Pakistan may create favorable conditions for thunderstorm activity in some districts.

The PMD identified Qambar Shahdadkot, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar among the areas where rain and thunderstorms are most likely to occur. While the forecast may bring temporary relief, authorities have warned that heatwave conditions are expected to persist in many parts of Sindh through Saturday.

Several districts are still expected to experience extremely high temperatures. The PMD forecast maximum temperatures ranging from 47°C to 50°C in areas including Kashmore, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Naushahro Feroze.

Meanwhile, temperatures in Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro, and Sanghar are expected to remain between 44°C and 47°C despite the possibility of rain in some locations.

Karachi is likely to continue experiencing hot and humid weather over the coming days. Daytime temperatures in the city are forecast to remain between 35°C and 37°C. Humidity levels could reach nearly 80 percent during the morning and around 70 percent in the evening, while southwesterly sea breezes are expected to remain active.

The forecast comes shortly after Dadu recorded its highest temperature in a decade. According to the PMD, the city reached 51.5°C, surpassing its previous record of 51.4°C set in May 2016. The temperature was significantly above the average for the month.

Other cities also experienced extreme weather, with Larkana and Jacobabad recording temperatures of 50.5°C. Authorities continue to advise citizens to take precautions against heat-related illnesses while monitoring developments regarding the expected rain and thunderstorms across Sindh.
