Pakistan’s Iconic Chacha Cricket Announces Retirement

Pakistan’s beloved cricket superfan, Chaudhry Abdul Jalil, popularly known as Chacha Cricket, has announced that he will retire from attending matches in stadiums after the upcoming ODI series between Pakistan and Australia. The veteran supporter revealed that the three-match series will be his final appearance in the stands, bringing an end to a remarkable journey spanning several decades.

The 77-year-old cricket enthusiast said that age-related health issues have influenced his decision to step away from live match attendance. Pakistan will host Australia in a three-match ODI series from May 30 to June 4, with the first match scheduled in Rawalpindi and the remaining two fixtures taking place in Lahore.

In an emotional message shared on social media platform X, Chacha Cricket requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, to arrange a memorable farewell ceremony. He specifically expressed his wish for a special tribute during the final ODI at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on June 4.

The iconic supporter thanked cricket fans for their affection and support over the years. He also hoped to conclude his long association with Pakistan cricket on a memorable note at one of the country’s most historic venues.

Chacha Cricket has been a familiar face at cricket grounds for nearly four decades and is widely recognized by fans around the world. His journey began during the 1980s in Sharjah, where Pakistan frequently played international matches. His unwavering passion eventually earned him official recognition as a PCB mascot in 1996.

Known for his extraordinary dedication, Chacha Cricket reportedly left a well-paying job in the United Arab Emirates and made personal sacrifices to travel across the globe in support of the Pakistan cricket team.

Born in Sialkot on October 8, 1949, he became famous for his distinctive appearance, including a bright green kurta, a long white beard, and a white cap featuring the national star and crescent.

Over the years, Chacha Cricket has become a symbol of loyalty, passion, and unwavering support for Pakistan cricket. Whether in victory or defeat, his energetic presence has inspired players and entertained fans, making him one of the most cherished figures in the country’s sporting history.
