Eid ul Azha holidays in Sindh have been officially reduced from four days to three after the provincial government issued a revised notification ahead of the festive period.
The sudden change came as many residents of Karachi and other parts of Sindh had already started planning for a longer Eid break. The revised schedule has now created fresh discussion among citizens regarding travel, family gatherings, and business activities during the holidays.
According to the latest notification issued by the Sindh Chief Secretary, public Eid holidays across the province will now be observed from May 26 to May 28, covering Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
The notification stated that the holidays will apply to all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous organizations, corporations, and local councils operating under the administrative control of the Sindh government.
However, essential services and departments involved in preparations for the 2026-27 provincial budget will continue operating during the holiday period.
Officials clarified that the Eid holidays will now correspond to 9th to 11th Zil Hajj 1447 Hijri across the province.
The new notification replaced the earlier announcement issued on May 22, which had initially declared a four-day Eid break from May 26 to May 29.
The unexpected revision has attracted attention because it officially shortens the Eid holidays by one day. Many citizens expressed surprise over the sudden decision, especially those who had already made travel and family arrangements for an extended weekend.
The revised Eid holidays schedule is also expected to affect transportation plans, tourism activities, business operations, and government office timings across Sindh.
Residents in Karachi and other cities had anticipated a longer festive break, particularly as Eid ul Azha is one of the biggest religious occasions in Pakistan, often involving family visits and travel to hometowns.
Despite the revised notification, authorities are expected to continue preparations related to security, cleanliness, and public services to manage Eid activities smoothly throughout the province.
