A growing Water shortage in Karachi has created serious difficulties for residents ahead of Eid ul Azha after water supply was disrupted in several areas of the city without prior notice.
The sudden suspension of water supply has forced many families to rely on private water tankers to meet daily household needs during Eid preparations. Residents complained that tanker prices have increased significantly, adding financial pressure during the festive season.

Several areas of Karachi have been affected by the water shortage, including Korangi, Landhi, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, PIB Colony, Mahmoodabad, and parts of the Old City Area.
According to sources, the disruption is linked to repair and maintenance work on a major conduit line near Safoora. The ongoing work has reportedly affected Karachi’s water distribution system, resulting in reduced supply in different parts of the city.
Officials said water supply from the Safoora and Nipa hydrants has also been impacted because of the maintenance activities.
Residents expressed frustration over the lack of communication from authorities regarding the suspension. Many citizens said no official advisory was issued before the disruption, and people were not informed about when normal water supply would be restored.
Citizens also complained that water shortages in Karachi often become more severe before major religious festivals, creating additional difficulties for families already busy with Eid arrangements.
Despite the widespread complaints and disruption, no official statement has yet been issued by the spokesperson of the city’s water corporation regarding the cause of the outage or the expected timeline for restoration.
The ongoing water shortage has increased concern among residents, especially in areas where tanker services are expensive or not easily available. Many families fear the situation could worsen further if water supply is not restored before Eid ul Azha.
Authorities are expected to continue repair work on the damaged pipeline while residents wait for an official update regarding the restoration of regular water services across the affected areas of Karachi.
