Sindh Approves 500 EV Buses and Karachi Traffic Plan

The Sindh government has approved several major transport projects to improve traffic flow and modernize public transportation. The decisions were made during a meeting of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority board.

Senior provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon chaired the meeting. Officials discussed plans for better transport systems in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.

One of the key decisions was the approval of a modern heavy vehicle terminal outside Karachi. The terminal will be built on the Northern Bypass. It will handle trucks, trailers, and other heavy transport vehicles.

According to officials, the project aims to reduce traffic pressure inside Karachi. Heavy vehicles will use a separate route instead of entering crowded city roads.

Under the approved plan, a dedicated heavy vehicle track will also be constructed. The track will connect Karachi Port with the Northern Bypass. This route will help separate heavy traffic from regular city traffic.

Officials believe the project will improve road safety and traffic movement. It is also expected to reduce congestion during busy hours in Karachi.

The Sindh government also approved the purchase of 500 electric buses. The buses will be acquired through a public-private partnership model.

Out of the total fleet, 450 electric buses will operate on 25 routes in Karachi. The remaining 50 buses will run on five routes in Hyderabad.

The new electric buses are part of Sindh’s plan to modernize urban transport. Authorities hope the project will provide affordable and cleaner travel options for the public.

During the meeting, officials also approved the establishment of five modern EV depots in Sindh. Four depots will be built in Karachi, while one will be established in Hyderabad.

These depots will support the operation and maintenance of electric buses. Officials said the facilities are necessary for the long-term success of the EV transport network.

Sharjeel Inam Memon said the new projects would help improve the transport system across Sindh. He added that reducing traffic congestion remains a major goal of the government.

The Sindh government has recently increased its focus on modern transport solutions. Officials believe electric vehicles and improved traffic management can help address urban transport challenges.
