Authorities in the Central Region have announced a complete ban on vehicles carrying sacrificial animals on motorways during Eid-ul-Azha. The decision was made to improve road safety and maintain smooth traffic flow during the holiday season.
Officials said overloaded and poorly maintained vehicles often create dangerous conditions on highways. In recent years, several accidents involving animal transport vehicles were reported on motorways. Authorities believe the new restrictions will help reduce such incidents during Eid-ul-Azha.
Under the new policy, vehicles loaded with animals will not be allowed to enter the motorway network. Instead, drivers will be directed to use alternative and safer routes. Officials said this step is necessary because traffic volume increases sharply during Eid-ul-Azha, especially near cattle markets and major cities.
Authorities also stated that public safety remains their top priority. They warned that overloaded vehicles can lose balance and become difficult to control at high speeds. Such situations can put other motorists at serious risk.
To ensure proper implementation, Punjab Police and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have been instructed to establish check posts at motorway entry points. Officers will monitor vehicles and stop those carrying sacrificial animals from entering restricted routes.
The authorities have also ordered strict action against illegal parking near cattle markets and motorway interchanges. Officials said illegally parked vehicles often create traffic jams and block emergency access routes. Traffic police will continue monitoring these areas throughout the Eid period.
In addition, transporters have been warned to follow all traffic laws and vehicle loading regulations. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone violating the rules. Authorities said the measures are designed to protect travelers and avoid unnecessary accidents during Eid-ul-Azha celebrations.
