NA Committee Raises Concerns Over School Leaving Certificates Verification Process High

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training has raised concerns over the issuance process of School Leaving Certificates in Pakistan. The issue was discussed during its 22nd meeting held in Parliament House.

The meeting was chaired by MNA Syeda Amnah Batool in an acting capacity. Lawmakers questioned the current system used for issuing School Leaving Certificates through PIERA.

Members of the committee said the process needs stronger verification. They emphasized that School Leaving Certificates should be properly confirmed by the concerned educational institutions before issuance.

The committee noted that lack of proper verification may create administrative and academic issues. It stressed the need for a more reliable and transparent system.

Officials briefed the committee on various education reforms. They also highlighted that ethical development of students is being given importance in both public and private schools.

The committee recommended that civic education should be included in the curriculum. This would help improve moral values, responsibility, and character building among students.

During the meeting, concerns were also raised about regulatory gaps in private education institutions. Officials said efforts are being made to improve monitoring systems.

The committee was informed that an online portal for private schools has been developed. It also heard that annual fee increases will be limited to between 5 and 10 percent.

Members were further briefed that unregistered schools have been identified. Authorities said action will be taken against institutions that do not comply with regulations.

Lawmakers also criticized the lack of a comprehensive strategy from PIERA. They said reforms should not only regulate fees but also strengthen institutional capacity.

The issue of School Leaving Certificates was again highlighted as a key concern. Members stressed that proper institutional verification is essential to avoid misuse.

The committee also reviewed the presence of multiple international education boards in Pakistan. Officials said this system promotes competition and offers choice to schools.

In addition, members discussed the occupation of buildings belonging to the Directorate General of Special Education. They expressed concern over misuse of educational facilities.

The committee was informed that only one institution has vacated the premises so far. Members urged authorities to reclaim the remaining buildings.
