Rs100 Petrol Subsidy Scheme for Motorcycle Owners Extended

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced the continuation of the Rs100 per litre fuel subsidy programme, extending relief for motorcyclists as petrol prices remain high.

According to the chief minister, the subsidy will now remain in effect until May 31, 2026, offering continued financial support to daily commuters who rely on motorcycles.

The decision was finalized during a cabinet meeting held at the CM House, where several key policy matters were reviewed. During the session, Murad Ali Shah approved the allocation of Rs2 billion to fund the subsidy programme for the month of May.

Officials shared that the initiative is already benefiting a large number of citizens, with over 548,000 individuals currently registered under the scheme. So far, approximately Rs1.096 billion has been distributed among eligible beneficiaries.

The extension is aimed at easing the burden of rising fuel costs and helping citizens manage their transportation expenses more effectively. The government believes the programme will continue to provide much-needed relief during a period of increasing inflation and energy prices.

This development comes shortly after the federal government revised petroleum prices upward. According to an official notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol was increased by Rs6.51 per litre, bringing it to Rs399.86 per litre.

Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel saw a significant hike of Rs19.39 per litre, raising its cost to Rs399.58 per litre. However, some adjustments were made to levies, with the petrol levy reduced by Rs3.88 per litre, while a new levy of Rs28.69 per litre was imposed on diesel, which previously had no such charge.

Overall, the subsidy extension reflects the provincial government’s effort to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices on the public.
